Together, let’s care for the people who shape our stories.
We welcome the opportunity to build formal or informal partnerships with media organisations. These partnerships are collaborative, flexible, and focused on the well-being of your people.
How can we support your newsroom?
Under NZ’s health and safety regulations, employers are responsible for staff's holistic well-being: physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and relational.
Media Chaplaincy New Zealand offers free, confidential, independent support to help staff navigate challenges early, before formal intervention, such as counselling, is needed. If counselling is appropriate, chaplains can guide staff towards trusted professionals.
By simply letting your people know about MCNZ, you give them access to care whenever they choose. Managers and HR leaders can also suggest chaplaincy support during times of stress, change, or when extra care is helpful.
What a partnership could look like:
-
As an organisation, you could choose a designated chaplain who is tasked with developing rapport with staff across all levels of your organisation. If staff feel more comfortable with a different chaplain, your designated chaplain can help individual staff connect with another more appropriate chaplain. Alternatively, we can offer a mix of chaplains to suit different needs. The latter would be based on individual staff approaches to MCNZ, or specific requests from HR and management, with all cultural and faith backgrounds within your organisation.
-
Provide pastoral support to all personnel, regardless of worldview, including their faith or belief system—especially during times of stress, grief, conflict, or uncertainty. Our chaplains can also encourage and help staff to access counselling services (such as EAP) if this is deemed to be a good step for their care.
-
Ideally, establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to outline mutual expectations and ensure consistent chaplaincy access (this is preferred, but not mandatory).
-
Schedule visits to ensure chaplains are familiar, visible, and accessible to your staff.
-
Be available in critical times, e.g. the death of a colleague, restructuring, or public-facing tragedy.
Let’s start a conversation.
If your organisation is interested in partnering with MCNZ or learning more about what chaplaincy could look like in your workplace, we’d love to meet with you.
