Finding stillness when the news never stops
A word of encouragement from our lead media chaplain, Frank Ritchie:
In the fast-paced world of 24/7 news and headlines, it can be difficult to make space to be still since the flow of it is constant and it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking we have to keep up with it at all times. Yet we need stillness for the good of our body, mind, and spirit. We are humans, not news machines.
We are humans, not news machines.
We’re talking here of an inner stillness where the anxiety of constant information doesn’t dictate the terms of our being.
It can be as simple as sitting and gazing out a window to let ourselves drift while we drink a tea or coffee. It could be a short, slow walk where we deliberately listen for the birds. Or it could be taking 2 minutes to breathe in and out while focusing on our breath.
Whatever it looks like, moments of disconnecting to embrace stillness have value beyond measure.
The news may never stop, but we can. In fact, the good of what we do improves if we do.
